Moved from the Philippines at the age of 8 and has since grown up in New Zealand. James got into comedy in 2009 through the Class Comedians programme. At the Class Comedians Showcase he was awarded with the "Nailed It" on the night award. He continues to be a regular at The Classic, and was a national finalist in the 2011 Raw Comedy Quest. In the 2012 Comedy Festival, he was nominated for "Best Newcomer" with Edith Poor and Eli Matthewson for their show "Minority Report".
