This is in stark contrast to the likes of Greg Proops, who I saw a few days before, who had very much an as-seen-on-TV Hollywood sort of vibe.
Johansson got off to a fairly slow start due to a typically cold, almost lifeless Auckland crowd. He also admitted to not having done the show for about six months and being a bit rusty.
But it wasnt long until laughter was booming around the Classic as Johansson explained in great detail how his body and attitudes had changed in his late 30s, and how his partner changed when she became pregnant.
By the time he started delving into the differences between men and women, the audience was hanging on every word as he presented his hilarious observations. This sounds like extremely well-trodden territory for a stand-up comedian, but Johanssons take on the subjects were fresh and very funny.
His later bits on body piercing and engagement rings were both dynamite and some of the best gags of this years comedy festival so far.
