Pete Johannson

One of Canada’s finest, Pete Johansson makes his NZ debut at the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival

The leading critic for The Scotsman newspaper in Edinburgh, Kate Copstick, had this to say;

This is the funniest first hour I have ever seen from a comic here in Edinburgh. Johannson is assured, relaxed, open and gently hilarious onstage. In fact, the rest of this review is just going to go on and on about how great he is so why not stop reading and go and get your ticket now& This is observational, anecdotal, autobiographical comedy at its best. His closing riff on engagement rings, intimacy and anal sex is one of the unmissable joys of this years Fringe. Look, Ill give you my money-back guarantee. Now will you go and buy a ticket?

Pete Johansson joins a fine pedigree of top Canadian comedians that have featured at our Festival including Glenn Wool, Craig Campbell, Phil Nichol and Jason John Whitehead.

Although 2011 will be his first time in NZ Johansson has already headlined at the very best comedy venues across the world including New Yorks Carolines Comedy Club, The Helium Club In Philadelphia, Austins Capital Comedy Club, Minneapoliss Acme Comedy Theater, The Comedy Store in London and Manchester, as well as shows in Dubai, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Afghanistan, Guam, Cayman Islands, Germany, Malta, Cyprus, Amsterdam, Ireland and Canada, and many, many more too numerous to mention.

In 2009 Johansson cracked the UK Pro circuit following his acclaimed debut at the Edinburgh Fringe where he was nominated, despite his 19 years experience on the global circuit, for the Best Newcomer award.

Johansson will not only feature in The Big Show at the Comedy Chamber but he will also follow this up with a 2 week season at The Classic in his own solo show.
